Shortly after this came out on VHS, my middle school choir teacher made the class watch it to learn the songs. We absolutely performed "Seize the Day" at our spring concert. With hand gestures. Kinda bummed our performance didn't radicalize our small town into a bunch of socialists. 😂
Also, I laughed so hard at Prison Mike being the dialect coach I had to put my phone down and walk away. 💀
This is the best review I have ever read of my all time favorite movie and once on a date I told a too serious man it was my favorite of Christian bale’s works.
I'm dead. This was so good. I love this ridiculous, terrible, but also wonderful movie. I love baby Christian Bale the serious actor.
Crutchy is definitely in the Broadway musical with no changes, and I'm pretty sure Weisel is too, but they did at least give Sarah a brain and make her the reporter working on the story. No more Bill Pullman!
I wish I had seen this movie as a kid, I would have LOVED it. Sadly, this was my first time watching it and it was not very good. I do appreciate it for its message, but wow those songs are bad \.
I heard Christian Bale didn't know it was a musical until after he was cast, thinking he was doing a hard-hitting, anti-capitalism-for-kids drama and then had to learn to sing and dance as he went along. The whole time I just kept thinking about he was trying SO HARD and doing an okay job and I just want the kids to be having a good time.
Thank you for the toaster strudel line, it made my entire day.
also my younger cousin was so obsessed with this movie as a kid that he made my auntie (a seamstress) make him newsie outfits that he wore to school proudly with a jaunty little cap. he’d jump on things and yell out newsie pape hawking lines. i didn’t really get it because i think i’d just aged out of this and was too cool even for christian bale 🤷🏻♀️ i wish i had a photo, alas just the memory.
also also please consider reviewing dream a little dream with THE COREYS. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I really enjoyed this one, thank you. Also I once hosted a Disney themed pub quiz and my costume was World’s Oldest Newsie, who my wife dubbed “Cane-sy.” My co-host for that event was a friend who is absolutely a Newsies stan who has seen the film dozens of times.
1. I would love for an interviewer to ask Serious Actor Christian Bale if he can still perform his dance break.
2. Lindy, like you watching this movie gave me one of my first ever lady boners, and then I cut a picture of Christian Bale out of a teen mag and put it in my nightstand and felt like a big dirty pervert.
Am I remembering correctly that David and fam are Jewish? Is that just implied? As a kid I remember this being one of the main representations of Jewish families outside of Rugrats.
Hello I'm here to confirm for you that "the weasel" (though less overtly semitic) and Crutchy (no changes, was fine as is) are both in the Broadway show. Additionally Dave's sister doesn't exist but Bill Pullman is a lady who is Jack's love interest which makes as little sense as it sounds like it would
This isn’t relevant to Newsies but I had to say that I loved Shit Actually and went for paid subscripsh mostly in the hope that you will soon review new Topgun movie do not fail me thx
I rented this movie so many times from the video store, they gave me a copy.

YES - I mean yes, he is. He's also currently in Mrs Maisel as the lawyer.
And Burditt (sp?) in Mindy Kaling's Late Night! This actor's got longevity y'all.
